Kids still show up. No flashing lights. No stands of cheerleaders. No glory of winning.

Just a safe place to play basketball, on a team where they belong, surrounded by coaches who remind them they matter.

In case you’re new here—Street 2 Street exists to help kids play, belong, and matter through sports, mentoring, and personal development. We’ve spent nearly 15 years pouring into kids in NYC, Florida, Arizona, Tennessee, and more! What does that mean exactly? Well, we deal directly with kids in urban communities dealing with poverty, imprisonment, and many other obstacles. We help them overcome these obstacles, develop character, pursue higher education, and achieve their dreams. We can’t do this without you. For more info, or to donate, visit street2street.com/give

An hour prior to the first Combine of the season,

An hour prior to the first Combine of the season, the doors to our Paterson Center of Excellence cracked open and two boys peaked in.

Coach André, setting up for the day of events, invited them in.

"Is this Street 2 Street?" They asked as their eyes wandered around the basketball court and to the training stations Coach André had already set up.

"Yes!" Coach André confirmed their hopes and introduced himself. "We're really excited you two are here! You know we don't start for another hour though, right?"

The two boys, Jerome and Kent, nodded and shared their story.

Jerome and Kent, both from the Bronx, heard about Street 2 Street through word of mouth in their neighborhood.

Unable to wait for the summer league in New York, they signed up for the spring league in Paterson, New Jersey.

With a car, the trip is fifty minutes. But neither Jerome nor Kent had access to a ride.

On public transportation, the trip is nearly two hours one way. The boys, still determined to see Street 2 Street for themselves, mapped out the route to make sure they arrived on time.

After walking, a subway, and 43 stops on the bus, they arrived at the Paterson Center of Excellence, exactly as they had planned.

The boys received Street 2 Street gear, helped André finish setting up, and even had time to warm up before the Combine started.

After the practice, Coach André approached Jerome and Kent to see how they liked the event, but the smiles on their faces said it all.

They were still playing basketball, but this time, with their new group of friends they found at Street 2 Street.

As they were leaving, they thanked the coaches and promised they would be back.

"This is even better than anything we could have dreamed of!" They said as they started their long trek back to the Bronx.

And to this day, they have not missed a Street 2 Street event.

Earlier this month we had our annual draft day at the Boys and Girls Club in Paterson. Draft Day is the kickoff to our 10-week league and kids find out what team they will be on.

This year we have 100 kids signed up and they will play every Saturday in the league with practices on Friday nights.
