“I am the fulfillment of ‘The Dream!'”
The words came from Jerome, one of the youngest kids in our Paterson program.
To celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Coach André and a handful of Street2Street players attended a service. While the time included a reciting of the famous “I Have A Dream” speech, it also focused on the teenagers in the audience.
Surrounded by men who want to make a difference for the next generation, the players were given a chance to share their own dreams, ranging from a desire for an education to a desire to be somebody successful.
With each turn with the microphone, Jerome noticed something special.
Raised by a single mother, Jerome dedicated his time to being his best: both in the classroom and on the court. His dedication brought an opportunity to attend an elite high school in the fall and his involvement in Street2Street allowed him to be mentored by the best.
As he thought about his own path and his own opportunities, he realized he is a fulfillment of “The Dream”. His smile was contagious, even empowering that day, as he walked around like a true king.
At Street2Street, we believe every kid in every neighborhood deserves a chance.
A chance to have a dream, and a chance to be the fulfillment of a dream.
A chance for a great education, and a chance to make a difference in their communities.
A chance to play basketball, belong in a community, and realize how much they matter.
A chance to be exactly who God created them to be.
